Our nine-year-old son, Jaden, inspired
this series. He created his pattern by
folding and then cutting paper. When he
opened the paper it revealed itself to be
four stylized crosses intersecting. We
put the pattern into the computer, played
with it a bit and came up with the
star-center design. The cross is a
powerful symbol that has been used by
many cultures in many forms, its
strongest association in Western culture
being with Christianity. There are
hundreds of versions of the cross
appearing throughout history and in the
context of many cultures and religions. A
cross with equal sides is sometimes
associated with the four directions -
north, south, west and east - also with
the four elements of fire, earth, air and
water. There are many crosses associated
with Christian Saints as well as many
versions that represent aspects of
Christ. We enjoy creating art using this
powerful symbol and hope that it will
serve as a work of art as well as a
reminder of strength, hope and love. May
be purchased individually.
